Wide Range of Button Batteries

Button batteries and coin cells are so popular owing to their widespread usage in small electronic devices like calculators, watches and an array of games and toys.

Button and coin cells are called so because of their shape – round, small and thin. Button cells are fatter while coin cells are flatter. All lithium button batteries are rated at 3v and that’s they are even referred to as 3v lithium batteries.

These button cells are known for their low self-discharge. What’s more, they can hold a charge for a long time when not in use. You can expect a long service life with most button batteries.

Lanplus stocks a variety of button cell batteries from leading brands like Duracell, Panasonic, PKCell and Naccon.

Battery Naming Standards

The manner in which batteries are named could make it difficult to find what you need. However, once you understand the format, the process becomes a breeze.

Each battery has a standardised name. Although there are several different battery naming standards, the most prevelant one is IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).

Each button battery displays its respective IEC classification prominently.

So let’s say, a battery says CR2032. This tells you it’s a round, single cell, lithium battery with a 20mm diameter and 3.2mm height. Let’s break it down.

The first letter C denotes the chemistry, in this case, Lithium.

The second letter, R, denotes the shape, in this case, round. Other battery shapes include Square (S), Flat (F) and simply Not Round (P).

And the last 4 or 3 digits indicate the approximate size of the battery so you can identify which one you need. In this case, 2032, denotes the diameter - 20mm and thickness – 3.2mm.

Button Battery Safety Tips

Given their small size, button batteries, if swallowed pose a safety hazard to children between ages 1 and 4 years. So it is very important to store the spare button and coin batteries out of children’s reach.

  • Store all spare button and coin cells in a sealed container.
  • Place the container in a high cupboard at all times.
  • If the battery compartment of an electronic device is not secured, keep it out of children’s reach.
  • Put dead or flat batteries out of children’s reach immediately and recycle them safely and quickly.
  • Teach older children that button batteries can be a threat and ask them not to play with them or give them to their younger sisters/brothers.
